Abstract:
Given the influential role of the Algerian army in the three major phases of the country’s recent history, namely the war of liberation, the creation of the independent state, and the counter-terrorism war, it is useful to study its military thinking (tenets, culture, or creed), and more precisely its military doctrine. A doctrine often overshadowed by the material aspect of its armament and often reduced to a simple doctrine of defense.
In recent years and with the proliferation of external and internal tensions in the Arab world, some countries have had to revise their military doctrine or even create one. We will try in this series of papers to analyze the Algerian military doctrine and understand its importance, principles, evolution and limits. In a future second part, we will try to address its interactions with the new global anti-terrorism doctrine.
