Abstract
Bennabi developed the notion of idea as no thinker before him. He was the pathologist who determined its action during the different stages of a society’s life. His approach is not philosophical but historical and sociological. It is in his work the “Problem of Ideas” that we measure the most the universality of his thought which has for fields of study civilizations and human societies, his reference to Islam being only illustrative. He will demonstrate that the strength of a society depends on the vigor of the ideas that inhabit it.
